Stellplatz am Strand

A pedestrian promenade that circles almost the entire city, white stands right by the city, free parking spaces for campers, winding streets, hidden plazas, cozy cafes and excellent restaurants … Cádiz has a lot to offer. The beautiful part of the city starts from the old city wall. The best way to explore the city on foot and discover the historic buildings, which are still important witnesses of the once important position of Cadiz.

From this free parking space there is still a 55-minute walk to the city wall. Always along the promenade. This place has the advantages of being free and offering a beach for swimming.

Alternative im Zentrum

But there is another parking space . Very central and almost directly on the Murallas de San Carlos city wall by the port. However, this costs 4 euros per day.

Here are a few words about the city:

The city “Gadir” is one of the oldest Phoenician settlements in the west.

During the golden years of Cadiz in the 18th century, the old church of Santa Cruz no longer suited to the splendid church rituals. Therefore, in 1722, the conversion to an impressive architectural masterpiece based on the architect Vicente Acero began.

Forms of the Italian barrock were elegantly combined with the traditional Spanish forms. The progress of the construction work was very much dependent on the economic situation, so that there were always construction stops and the work could only be completed in 1838. Although the spirit of Vicente Aceros, of course, has a decisive influence on the appearance of the cathedral today, neoclassical influences were incorporated, especially in the higher levels. It is particularly visible in the dome and the towers.

The Mirador entre Catedrales

Actually only two colors dominate here: white and blue. Directly above an archaeological site and between the Catedral de Cádiz and the Iglesia de Santa María, there is a staircase with railings on this white platform that offers an impressive view of the deep blue ocean. You almost get the impression that you are standing on the edge of the endless expanse of the sea. The pavilion roof is also white and offers protection from the sun.
